Dr Carol Coombes OBE

It is with great sadness that we announce that Dr. Carol Coombes OBE, one of BHSF’s non-executive directors, has passed away.

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Carol passed away peacefully on Sunday 11th of August.

Carol had been a valued member of the BHSF Board since October 2014 and will be missed by the many people who knew her.

Prior to Carol joining BHSF, she was Chief Executive of the Citizens Advice Bureau in Birmingham and later became Senior Programme Director for Common Purpose in the West Midlands. She moved to Carat, an organisation dedicated to transforming business leadership, and then left to set up her own business –Cracking Leadership.

Carol was awarded a doctorate from Birmingham City University for her Outstanding Contribution to Business, and in November 2009 was awarded an OBE for her Services to Leadership and her Charitable Work.

Andrew Milner – Chairman of BHSF, said: “Carol brought her own extensive and valuable skills and experience to our board and always ensured that concern for people was at the forefront of any discussions. Her concern was not just about our employees but about the people in the wider community we serve.”

Ian Galer – Chief Executive Officer of BHSF, added: “I have never met a more caring or more passionate person than Carol. She campaigned tirelessly for people’s rights and was an inspiration to so many people. My thoughts go out to her family and friends.”
