One of the UK’s leading specialists in the finances of academies, accountants Thorne Widgery, will be demonstrating their own innovative cloud accounting software, which has been designed to help school leaders, at this year’s Academies Show.
As a partner of one of the world’s most prominent online accounting providers, Xero, the firm will be offering school business managers and headteachers the opportunity to learn more about their own specialist cloud-based system on stand G14 at the show, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC on 23rd November.
This is the first time that Xero’s innovative software has been put to use by an outside partner in such a bespoke manner and it offers a number of advantages over existing software packages on the market for schools.
Speaking about the software, Thorne Widgery’s Managing Director, Stephen Smallwood, said: “Academies have learnt quickly that they need to think of themselves as a business.
As part of the move to academy status or to a multi-academy trust schools have recognised the need for cost-effective, efficient, easy to use systems that enables multiple-users access and consolidated reporting.
The response so far has been such that, we have even started working with other accountancy practices to help them provide this financial software solution to their academy clients.
We are delighted to be attending the Academies Show in Birmingham and we look forward to demonstrating the benefits of Xero and our enhancements of the system for academies at the event.”
Based in Hereford, Thorne Widgery has been working with academy schools as auditors for a number of years to ensure that their complex finances are properly managed and that they remain compliant with the Education Funding Authorities regulations.
During that time they have spoken to business managers and headteachers and have a strong understanding of what they are looking for from their management software.
Using their knowledge of school’s audit, reporting and accounting needs, Thorne Widgery has created their own Xero solution to specifically meet academies’ requirements, whilst also making the audit process more efficient.
They have a number of clients across the UK who have been using this system for some time and enjoying the benefits it offers. One of those making use of the system is Nicky Hawkins, School Business Manager at St Paul’s Church of England Primary School in Hereford.
She said: “Xero helps me give auditors the information they want. If I have any worries the team at Thorne Widgery are there to guide me through; the support is fantastic.”
Another regular user of Thorne Widgery’s enhanced software, Julie Hancock, School Business Manager at Lugwardine Primary Academy in Hereford added: “I wasn’t happy with my previous system… there was no-one there to support me.
“I wanted a software system where I would get help and support. On-site training with Thorne Widgery was good and they broke things down into small chunks so the information would sink in. Just four weeks on I cannot believe how easy Xero is compared to the system we previously used.”
