This year’s Annual Ball, held on Friday 12th July at Spode China Halls, has raised a record £100,000 to support the children, young people, and their families, who rely on The Donna Louise.
The China Halls, Spode, were once again dramatically transformed from a disused warehouse space to a stunning ball venue, with theatrical lighting, 1,200 origami butterflies, a stage and seating for almost 500 guests. This years’ Ball had a Butterfly theme to compliment the 5,000 ceramic butterflies currently on display as part of the ‘Taking Flight’ installation at Trentham Gardens in aid of The Donna Louise.
Zoë Gregory, Event Manager at The Donna Louise, explained, “After the success of last year’s biggest ever ball, we had to do something equally special and it seemed fitting to match the theme to the beautiful ‘Taking Flight’ Butterfly installation.”
“In the week leading up to the ball, we had teams of volunteers helping us to clean up, tidy, move furniture and get the huge space ready for the event. I’m delighted that everything came together on time and I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to transform the venue to make it so spectacular.”
The evening was a huge success, full of fun and laughter, and hosted by Jonathan Wilkes. There was plenty of singing and dancing, thanks to Jonny and his band, as well as ballerinas, butterfly stilt walkers, a fantastic live auction and a lively game of heads and tails. Brand new for this year, guests were also invited to pledge their support by funding a day of care at the hospice. We were also pleased to welcome one of our parents, Tony Gillespie, to the stage whose speech captivated the attention of every guest as he shared his family’s story and journey at The Donna Louise.
Nathan Walton, Director of Income Generation & Marketing at The Donna Louise, said, “The Ball was a great success and we are absolutely over the moon to have raised this record amount – I hope that everyone who came had a great time. Each year we need to raise more than £4.5million to continue to offer vital care to local children and young adults. The Ball is one of our headline events and a night which many of our supporters look forward to, so it was great to see them having a wonderful time and I’d like to thank them for their support in making this a record-breaking year.”
Zoe added, “We’re already looking forward to next years’ Annual Ball – I can guarantee it will be a night not to be missed.”
