Birmingham-based The Audio Suite is celebrating a ‘dream call’ which resulted in their expertise being utilized to help with the audio post production on Steven Spielberg’s latest film, ‘Lincoln’.
The Audio Suite was asked by the post-production team at the Los Angeles-based production company DreamWorks Studios to re-record lines, in a specialised process called ADR, to help bring an actor’s dialogue track of the new movie even closer to perfection.
The Audio Suite’s Managing Director and Sound Designer / Senior Dubbing Mixer, Neil Hillman said: “We are what you might perhaps call a ‘quiet sound company’, as we tend to not widely advertise our facilities and services; so it seemed incredible when the initial call came through from the U.S., out of the blue. But the experience of working with DreamWorks, and the audio post-production team at Skywalker Sound, was both refreshing and inspirational.
“Skywalker Sound is one of the biggest and most-respected audio post-production companies in the industry, having been engaged on all of Pixar’s brilliant animated features, as well as other titles such as Iron Man, The Dark Knight series, and the Jurassic Park films.
“It seems DreamWorks was happy to choose us because they knew that the quality of the work that we deliver is top notch, with the added bonus that with us being located in the provinces, we could also maintain a high level of discretion around the project.”
“Lincoln,” starring Daniel Day-Lewis, is the latest Hollywood collaboration by The Audio Suite, which from its Birmingham base has provided sound services for several major films, as well as soundtracks for television programmes and advertising companies for over ten years – to a global audience recently estimated to exceed over half a billion people. Neil Hillman is a member of the prestigious US Motion Picture Sound Editors.
Mark Graziano, Vice President of Post-Production for DreamWorks Studios said: “We chose Neil Hillman and The Audio Suite for ADR for this project because of their first-class reputation and proximity to talent. We were pleased with their contribution to the film and impressed with the ease in which The Audio Suite studios and our sound team at Skywalker Sound were able to work together, linking the two studios together in real time to accomplish the necessary work.”
