Stones, the modern British restaurant located in the heart of picturesque Matlock, has announced that it will re-open for business on Tuesday May 14th. It is the second such announcement made by Stones. In September 2012, Stones began work on a major redevelopment of their 32-cover restaurant. Due to a fire, in October of last year, the popular riverside restaurant was forced to reschedule its plans.
On Tuesday May 14th, one day shy of their original opening five years ago, Stones will welcome diners to a larger restaurant and kitchen, redesigned rest rooms and a new riverside conservatory and terrace offering unique views of the picturesque River Derwent. Increasing in size will also allow Stones to host wedding receptions and private parties, lunches and dinners.
Stones Restaurant Manager Jade Himsworth reflected:
“Initially, we were overwhelmed by the fire; it was incredibly disheartening. However, that is nothing compared to how overwhelmed we were by the number of messages of support we received. Those good wishes really helped us deal with, and bounceback from, the toughest of times. We want to repay all those good people by delivering a restaurant that they can truly enjoy.”
2012 saw Stones emerge as one of the most sought after tables in Midlands dining. Over the first half of the year, the modern British restaurant sold out every Friday and Saturday evening. On restaurant review site Trip Advisor, of the 126 diners to have reviewed Stones 108 gave it a maximum five stars and 13 four stars. It has been described as ‘Best Restaurant in Derbyshire’, ‘Best Dining Experience in the UK’ and ‘almost Michelin Star quality at a fraction of the price’.
Stones Head Chef Kevin concluded:
“Before the fire, from a professional and personal point of view, serving a full dining room was superb. However, having to turn diners away was heart-breaking. I became a chef to ensure as many people as possible enjoyed how I think food should be sourced, prepared and served. The larger kitchen and dining room will allow me to really spread my wings and start showing some of the ideas I’ve had scribbled down in my recipe books for years. 2013 is going to be incredibly exciting, I can’t wait.”
