West Midlands businesses are set for a special briefing on how to comply with employment regulations without breaking the bank.

Warwickshire law firm Lodders is holding a breakfast seminar to give guidance to business owners and managers responsible for staff on disciplinary procedures and how to handle dismissals correctly.

The seminar will be presented by employment lawyer Kim Klahn on Thursday, April 18, at the firm’s offices in Arden Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, and individuals wishing to attend can register their interest by calling Nikki Adams on 01789 206913 or emailing

Lodders recently launched a new employment service called Empline which aims to provide business owners and HR professionals with legal peace of mind for a fixed annual fee.

Empline addresses one of the most serious problems facing the small and medium sized business owner – the unpredictable nature of employment disputes and their cost in time and money.

Lodders associate Kim Klahn has been demonstrating the offer at clients’ offices across Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.

She said: “It is vital to comply with employment regulations yet few small businesses can afford to employ a full time HR professional.

“One in five small firms has been threatened with an employment tribunal in the last three years. Lose it and you can face a bill for thousands of pounds.

“Over 80 per cent of small firms use external expertise to comply with employment regulations, but now there is a more cost effective way to stop employment law holding your business back.”

Empline helps firms comply with everyday HR tasks and the various bespoke Empline packages, allow subscribers to access advice via a secure online portal.

They can see and store all their employment contracts and policies, access resources and documents for routine HR tasks, store personnel files and manage absences, be prepared for upcoming legislation and search up to date legal references. They can also download standard and customised legal documents and access legal support via a telephone helpline, depending on the combination of services they have chosen.

Mrs Klahn said: “Every month there are employment issues to consider.

“For example, we have had Agency Workers Regulations, the abolition of the default retirement age, pensions auto-enrolment, extra paternity leave, introduction of a two year qualifying period for unfair dismissal, increased statutory pay rates and new income tax thresholds.
“And that’s just a sample of the issues that business owners have to be aware of and consider.”
“The seminar will brief clients and potential clients on how Empline can offer SMEs a way through the maze.”

The new service is available from Lodders’ offices in Stratford-upon-Avon, Henley-in-Arden and Cirencester, by calling the dedicated Empline on 01789 206927 or emailing
