Solihull school marks Armistice Day ceremony

Solihull School marked this week’s Armistice Day with a poignant wreath-laying ceremony and Remembrance service.

Pupils, staff and invited guests gathered in the school’s Great Quadrangle at 11am on Monday, 11 November to remember those who died in two world wars and other conflicts.

Guest of honour was former pupil, 2nd Lieutenant Alexandra Capewell of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.  Alexandra was welcomed back to Solihull and invited to lay the wreath on behalf of all Old Silhillians serving in the armed forces.

Other wreaths were laid at the school’s War Memorial by Headmaster David EJJ Lloyd; Chairman of the Governors, Mark Hopton; President of the Parents’ Association, Archana Somaiya; President of the Old Silhillians’ Association, Simon Griffiths; Bursar, Richard Bate and Solihull Head of School, Jack Arrowsmith.

A rendition of the Last Post was followed by one minute’s silence, the Reveille and a Roll of Honour before Mr Lloyd recited the traditional tribute to The Fallen.

Sixth Form students and guests then moved in silence to a reflection Remembrance service in the school Chapel.
