A Staffordshire rugby club is playing out the season in style after a sponsorship deal was made with a local housebuilder.

Bellway West Midlands donated £3,500 to St Leonards Rugby Club, which plays its home games at a pitch off The Drive in Doxey, Stafford.

The housebuilder is creating a new community at its nearby Mallard Walk development, off Doxey Road.

The money has paid for new kit and equipment for the club, which now has big ambitions for the future.

Terry Griffin, Club President for St Leonards Rugby Club, said: “We are so grateful to Bellway for their support, which has enabled us to purchase new kits and equipment for the year ahead.

“2018 was a huge year for the club and 2019 is set to be even bigger. We are now leasing a new pitch which means we can look to the future and decide how best to expand our club. For instance, we are now looking at ways to eventually introduce junior and women’s rugby.

“We are very much reliant on donations like this one from Bellway, which means we can now focus on what we do best – playing rugby.”

Marie Richards, Sales Director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “We always look to support the communities in the areas in which we build, so we are delighted to have the opportunity to help St Leonards Rugby Club.

“With brand new kits and equipment, hopefully this season will prove to be a very successful one for the club.”
