Top city chef, Shekhar Raturi is the new head chef at upmarket Indian restaurant Punjabi Rasoi in Acocks Green.

Mr Raturi takes up his role after being at the helm of the kitchen at The Horseshoe Bar and Restaurant for five years. Prior to settling in the UK, Mr Raturi enjoyed successful stints working for major Indian hotel groups and cooking for prominent figures and dignitaries. His most famous diner to date is the former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

During his time at The Horseshoe, Mr Raturi was instrumental in enhancing the reputation of the Hall Green restaurant. He was involved in creating the dish- Murgh Kali Mirch- for Marco Pierre White’s Channel 5 series Kitchen Wars and performed in front of hundreds during a live cooking demonstration at Grand Designs Live staged at the NEC.

The new appointment is a clear signal of the restaurant’s ambition to be recognised as one of the city’s most prominent Indian restaurants.

Punjabi Rasoi owner Raman Bal believes Mr Raturi will lead the restaurant towards greater success, “We are delighted that Shekhar Raturi is now part of the Punjabi Rasoi team. His culinary knowledge and experience has helped to establish him as one of the best chefs for Indian cooking in Birmingham.

His speciality in North Indian cuisine fits in perfectly with the ethos of our restaurant to offer diners a true Punjabi dining experience. Since the restaurant opened last month, we have received very positive feedback and I believe that this will only continue as Chef Shekhar applies his signature mark to the dishes on the menu. ”

Shekhar Raturi believes Punjabi Rasoi is the perfect next step in his culinary career, “To date, I have enjoyed a very successful career and I am excited to be embarking upon a new challenge. I have been welcomed very warmly and cannot wait to get cooking in the kitchen. ”
