nmcn makes positive impact on Birmingham food charity with donation

FareShare volunteers serve projects around the West Midlands

nmcn PLC has made a donation to food charity FareShare West Midlands, as part of their Positive Impact Plan which has a focus on investing in the local community.

FareShare West Midlands accesses quality, in-date surplus food within the supply chain and diverts it to over 217 charities and community groups which support vulnerable people at risk of hunger – including homeless hostels, breakfast clubs and domestic violence refuges. This year alone they delivered enough food to create the equivalent of over 1.7 million meals.

The Metro Triangle-based warehouse is the regional branch of FareShare, the UK’s largest surplus food redistribution charity fighting hunger and food waste, and serves projects across the whole of the West Midlands, including Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry and the Black Country.

Laura Spencer, Development Manager at FareShare West Midlands, said: “We’re really grateful to have nmcn PLC’s support. For every £1 we receive we’re able to provide enough food for four meals, so this donation could help us give 1,920 people in need a hearty, nutritious meal.

“Their gift also couldn’t come at a better time as we run ActiveAte, our summer campaign aiming to combat holiday hunger. With the safety net of free school meals removed for six weeks, many vulnerable children in the West Midlands are at risk of hunger – so we’ll be providing healthy meals and snacks to school holiday schemes across the region in an effort to make sure no child goes hungry this summer.”

nmcn PLC’s Charity Committee, made up of representatives from across all of our business units, and led by pre-construction manager Dave Blount, has made a donation as part of our colleague led ‘Giving Back’ scheme. “We recognise the important of ‘giving back’ to communities directly as a business, and by supporting our people in their own charity work. It has a significant impact on our communities, both locally and further afield, and something we feel reflects our values as a business and as individuals”, said Dave Blount.

“We have been made aware of FareShare by one of our committee members, Michaela Skodova, nmcn’s Environmental Manager and Sustainability Lead. Through this donation, we have been able to highlight and make our colleagues and committee members aware of the fact that food provision during school holidays is not always available.

“This donation reinforces message of our company’s new ‘Positive Impact Plan 2025’ and business purpose, to have a positive impact on everything we touch. This is one of our bigger donations for this year and we are glad to be able to support lunches over the summer for children in the West Midlands area, where we work. I would encourage all local companies to do the same.”
