MTC to offer platform for innovative ideas

An Innovation Pitch from the Digitalising Manufacturing Conference 2018

The Manufacturing Technology Centre is giving entrepreneurs, technologists and inventors the chance to pitch their innovative ideas on factory digitalisation to the UK’s manufacturing decision makers.

The MTC has put aside time at its flagship digital conference in November for innovators and companies to make a pitch to the audience, which will be made up of industry leaders, as well as representatives from SMEs and OEMs.

Innovators chosen to make the pitches will also get access to the MTC’s technology experts to help them bring their ideas to market.  The “Innovation Pitches” session will allow each participant to give a high-level pitch to the audience at the Digitalising Manufacturing 2019 – Making Digital a Reality conference at the MTC’s Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre on Ansty Park, Coventry on November 4 and 5. The conference is run in partnership with Made Smarter, and conference tickets are available at: www.the-mtc.org/digital2019.

The MTC’s Head of Technology Strategy for Digital Manufacturing, Dr Lina Huertas said, “The successful applicants will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pitch to a high quality audience of manufacturing industry leaders and technologists. Hopefully this will lead to business for them and turn good ideas into a commercial reality.”

She added, “There is a great opportunity for the UK to become a global provider and exporter of Industry 4.0 technology. The creation of successful manufacturing tech companies would create significant economic wealth, value and jobs for the UK. There is a thriving ecosystem of digital tech start-ups in the UK, but very few of these are focused on manufacturing. Hopefully we can remove some of the barriers to entry and unearth some great new ideas.”

The Innovation Pitches initiative is being run in conjunction with the Digital Catapult – the UK’s leading centre connecting start-ups and scale-ups to solve real industrial challenges. It follows a similar process to the 2018 Digitalising Manufacturing conference which resulted in one of the pitches being connected with manufacturers and is currently in the process of securing further funding.

Dr Nick Wright, Head of Manufacturing Industries at Digital Catapult, said: “Digital Catapult’s expertise is built around matching the most innovative and talented UK start-ups with the manufacturing industries to find digital solutions that meet and solve today’s most pressing challenges. For the UK to become a global leader in the supply side of industrial digital technologies, opportunities for digital start-ups and scale-ups to pitch directly to manufacturers is crucial, offering manufacturers from across Europe the chance to see the best the UK has to offer. By partnering with the MTC for their Digitalising Manufacturing conference, together we can accelerate innovation at the heart of UK manufacturing.”

Interested companies or individuals are invited to apply for an exclusive innovation pitch slot before October 4 by visiting: www.the-mtc.org/innovationpitches.  Each application will be judged by a panel of experts from technology and manufacturing sectors. The best will be invited to present to the conference audience, plus the opportunity to be involved in the conference “Digital Experience Zone” where direct contacts can be made. Successful applicants will also be granted exposure within the conference website and material.

Some of Europe’s leading experts on the digital revolution sweeping through manufacturing industry will join forces at the conference, aimed at helping UK manufacturers embrace the latest digital technologies. The conference is supported by Make UK (formerly the EEF) and the Engineering and Machinery Alliance (EAMA).
