Leading accountants Thorne Widgery win regional training prize

kpb_0473-002One of Hereford’s largest firms of independent chartered accountants Thorne Widgery has been named Apprentice Employer of the Year 2016 by a prestigious regional organisation.

Herefordshire Worcestershire Group Training Association (HWGTA), a leading provider of training in the two counties, selected the firm for its ongoing commitment to support apprentices entering the tax and accountancy profession.

The firm currently has two apprentices completing AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualifications through HWGTA, Harvey Lewis, who is studying for his Level 2 qualification and Steffen Cunningham, who is studying for the AAT Level 4.

Earlier this year trainees, Laura McCarthy and Charlotte Toon, celebrated completing their AAT Apprenticeships with the firm and are now studying for the higher level ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

Thorne Widgery’s Directors Daniel Crowther and Andy Edward collected the award, which was presented to them by Olympic Rower, Andrew Triggs-Hodge, MBE, at a special ceremony held at Hereford’s Courtyard Theatre.

Speaking after the event, Andy said: “It is a real honour to be recognised as Herefordshire Worcestershire Group Training Association’s Apprentice Employer of the Year 2016.

“As a firm we are really committed to providing the highest level of support to our employees and trainees and we take great pride in helping them take their first steps in their accountancy careers.

“Having helped hundreds of trainees during our 70 year history as a firm, we hope we can continue to deliver exceptional training to the next generation of professionals.”
