SmartLaw works by allowing users to interact with law and legislation via real-time culture and media issue news. If there is a breaking case regarding an oil spill in the arctic, the Eastenders’ Queen Vic is up for a property dispute, or a footballer is caught up in a transfer saga, users can identify the real law issues surrounding the case; separating fact from fiction and providing the user with an innovative way to engage and be educated simultaneously.
IE is expecting the app to be of significant use to young people who want to find out how law works in real life situations, as well as those perhaps disenfranchised with all things legal, and those studying the subject at school or university.
This charity funded smartphone app was the result of The Citizenship Foundation’s venture into exploring ways to creatively engage a younger audience into the world of Law. The Citizenship Foundation is a charity whose sole purpose is to give young people the knowledge, confidence and inspiration they need to make an effective contribution to society and to shape their future in a rapidly changing world.
This creative venture led The Citizenship Foundation to the Birmingham based agency IE which specialises in design for the Charities, Education and Health sectors.
“It’s been fantastic working with IE and we’ve really appreciated their professionalism – from the excellent and efficient project management to the top quality creative ideas and beautiful design. The team has really helped us refine and work through our ideas to create something that’s user-friendly, visually appealing, and does everything we want it to do. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend working with IE – and in fact, we already have to several people!” Emma Watts, Technical Projects Manager, Citizenship Foundation.
This is another successful project for IE to add to their ever-growing repertoire of websites and apps, as the busy design agency has also been shortlisted for two Transform Awards (announced April 2015) for their work in completely rebranding the careers service for one of Birmingham’s biggest higher education establishments – Aston University. The SmartLaw app comes fresh off the back of the number one charities summit: CHASE 2015, where IE Design’s managing director, Ollie Leggett, spoke to a packed out seminar all about branding – taking examples and experiences from his 21 years creating digital communications for charities.
