An independently-owned and run artisan coffee shop has opened its doors in Worcester city centre after securing a start-up loan from HSBC. My Coffee and Co, based on The Cross, will focus on serving top quality coffee and food in a relaxed environment.
The business has been founded by Debbie Coulter and her partner Jeff Whiteley, along with their son Andrew, who will be working in the shop while Debbie and Jeff focus on the strategic direction of the business.
The company secured a small business loan from HSBC to support the launch of the new shop, which is set to become an integral part of Worcester’s burgeoning coffee scene. The company has employed seven people and plans to launch other My Coffee and Co shops once the Worcester shop is established.
My Coffee and Co is taking part in the ‘Small Business Saturday’ initiative on December 7, which aims to highlight the importance of small, independent businesses.
Andrew Coulter said: “The three of us all have a passion for good quality coffee and we believe we can offer something different from the high street competitors. Worcester is an ideal location for our first store because it is not over-saturated with coffee shops and it attracts strong footfall to
its centre. The support from HSBC was an important step in helping us launch the shop.
“I will be focused on running the shop, along with a management team, and will eventually oversee our shop network as we develop the business. There is a real opportunity to grow a chain of independent shops which focus on delivering quality to customers and we are excited by this challenge.”
Lisa Moseley, the HSBC Local Business Manager who worked with the company, added: “HSBC is supporting the ‘Small Business Saturday’ initiative, which highlights the importance of small, independent businesses like My Coffee &
Co. Our high streets need independent stores like this that focus on offering something different to the consumer. I’m delighted to have been able to help with the launch of this business and I hope to see it grow in the coming years.”
