‘Game, set, match’ for Droitwich’s young tennis players

Redrow mascots, Buster and Buddy visit Droitwich’s young tennis players

A local housebuilder is encouraging youngsters across Droitwich to get active and take up tennis.

The team at Redrow Homes Midlands has entered into its third year of sponsorship with Droitwich Tennis Club, which holds tennis sessions for schoolchildren across Worcestershire.

The club has recently introduced community tennis sessions, which take place over the weekend in Lido Park, with over 100 children in total now benefiting from the classes.

The club has seen junior membership rise by 27 per cent in the last year alone, and is expecting a further increase of up to 40 per cent throughout 2018. The sponsorship funds will continue to support qualified coaches at the club running the community based sessions, including both lessons in local schools, and the newly introduced park sessions.

Neil Bates, Droitwich Tennis Club Chairman, said: “We are thrilled to be sponsored by Redrow for the third year running. The last 12 months have been extremely successful for the club, with the introduction of the park sessions having a huge impact on the number of children coming along to play.

“We have so many phenomenal activities planned at the club this year – we are currently working with the local council to introduce tennis lessons for visually impaired children, which will have a hugely positive impact on the accessibility of the sport. This should be an incredible year for community tennis – and none of this would be possible without the sponsorship from Redrow.”

Pauline Turnbull, Sales Director for Redrow Homes Midlands, added: “Droitwich Tennis Club is an invaluable part of the local community, and we are proud to play a part in its ongoing success. The club’s hard work and effort is astounding, and it’s great to see our sponsorship being put to such great use – providing more children with the opportunity to become more active, while having fun and learning how to play tennis.”

The sponsorship is fitting with Redrow’s ongoing commitment to promote health, wellbeing and excellence, especially among young people.
