The owner of a traditional sweet shop at Hatton Shopping Village has been so overwhelmed by feedback from her sweet-toothed customers that she is kicking off the New Year by expanding her business with an online shop.
Business owner Debbie Bloxham, who owns Hatton Sweet Shop, an old-fashioned confectionary emporium with more than 230 jars of old-fashioned sweets, 35 varieties of fudge and an assortment of chocolates made the decision to respond to growing requests and demand.
She said: “Hatton Shopping Village really puts on a show at Christmas with their grotto, live nativity shows and market stalls so it’s a very busy time of year for me. I attracted well over 250 customers each day over the festive period and I had to make double the amount of fudge I usually do to cope with the demand.
“I’m passionate about chocolate and fudge and I am always looking for the next showstopper. This year we made Chocolate & Amaretto, Vanilla & Cranberry, and my favourite, Christmas Pudding fudge which was flying off the shelves. I’m already testing out new ingredients for the spring.”
The mother of four left her job as a purchasing manager with an automotive company to launch the venture four years ago and has since been renting a unit at Hatton Shopping Village where she makes the fudge on the premises.
“I was very lucky to have found a space for my shop at Hatton Shopping Village. The picturesque location and Hatton Adventure World right next door means that it attracts visitors from all over the country, including regular coach parties that are often not from the area. I was always being asked if I offer an online service to enable my customers to replenish their depleted stocks. I had been asked by so many visitors whether I could send
them chocolate and fudge that I decided it was an interesting expansion strategy to look into. I used to jot down the addresses and send orders out on request but it just became too much.”
