Premium Birmingham furniture retailer, Cookes Furniture, has shown its support for national animal charity, Dogs For Good, by sponsoring a golf day in name of Midland football star, Gordon Cowans.
The event, which took place on Wednesday 24th October, was hosted at Aston Wood Golf Club in the week Cowans celebrated his 60th birthday, and raised almost £9,000 on the day.
Golfers competed for a variety of fantastic prizes as they made their way around the course, including The Bob Mooring Memorial Trophy, which was awarded to keen golfer, Stuart Welsh, for the best individual score.
Following the tournament, guests enjoyed a sumptuous two course meal followed by a raffle with yet more prizes up for grabs, including a signed Steven Gerrard framed football shirt, a vintage Aston Villa picture, and a meal and wine at the Plough in Shenstone. Special guest singer, X Factor star James H. Williams, also joined the proceedings.
All funds from the day will go towards training a Dogs For Good assistance dog, who will go on to significantly improve the life of someone in need.
Based in Erdington, Cookes Furniture regularly support several charities, including The Cancer Support Centre and the Great Midlands Fun Run, which the company has sponsored since 2003.
Vanessa Hoe, Marketing Director at Cookes Furniture, said: “We are honoured to have sponsored the Gordon Cowans charity golf day, which proved to be a fantastic, fun day for all who took part. As an independent, family-run business, we are dedicated to supporting a variety of causes close to our heart throughout the year. Dogs For Good provides a life-changing, invaluable service for many across the country, and we are delighted to have helped raise such a significant amount of funds for the charity.”
