Contechs, based on the Budbrooke Industrial Estate in Warwick, has unveiled its new CofE model which is made up of a heavy weight team of automotive experts who will use their engineering expertise to steer complex projects.
The new Centre of Excellence model comes on the back of unprecedented growth for Contechs – which in the last year has created over 300 new jobs across its sites in Warwick and Basildon. In 2014, the company reported a turnover of £37million and is now on target to reach £50million this year.
And according to boss Peter Jarvis, these latest plans will act as a springboard to making Contechs a leader in its field, delivering high level engineering projects and surpassing its rivals in terms of craftsmanship, quality and parts.
He said: “Providing engineering services to the automotive industry has been the mainstay of Contechs business for many years, be it through recruitment or managed work packages. However, if we are to operate at a level commensurate with the premium automotive manufacturers, Contechs needs to offer an expertise which supports complete ownership of product and projects, delivered to our customers’ highest expectations.
“In order to meet this objective, we have launched a Centre of Excellence model which allows for specialists in automotive engineering to steer customer programmes. Although the expertise and core skills exist within the current business, the new model will promote a more focused approach.”
Full Turn Key Programmes within Contechs’ many sites are now being support by the CofE and the new expertise of the team. A typical CofE overseen programme would include studio integration and support, development of the design to release level, then supporting manufacturing engineering to ensure feasibility of design.
Surrounding this activity are services such as A-surface modelling, engineering CAD design, system testing and CAE. In addition the CofE provides cost down activity, benchmarking, data management and warranty support beyond the start of production.
The CofE will be headed up by Alan Yee, who has 40 years’ experience in vehicle engineering – principally with JLR, Bentley and BMW. Mr Yee has been appointed Engineering Director and will be based at Contechs’ Warwick site. He will be supported by Jeremy Green as Chief Engineer, who has specialist experience within interior trim and passive safety.
Mr Jarvis added: “We are delighted to welcome both Alan and Jeremy to Contechs. Investment in staff is vital for the CofE to function and their specialist expertise will complement the existing skills and knowledge we already have here at Contechs.
“The CofE provides direction and advice to the Contechs Projects teams to ensure the clients designs are robust, feasible for manufacture and meet milestone expectations. This is vital to helping Contechs become the number one choice when it comes to delivering high level engineering projects to some of the country’s leading automotive firms.”
Established in 1997, Contechs specialises in design and engineering, trim-manufacture, materials handling and specialist recruitment. Indeed it is this diversification and ability to deliver a turnkey solution that has led to Contechs becoming a preferred supplier for a number of the major players within the automotive sector.
Contechs has sites in Warwick, Basildon and Cologne, Germany and has a total workforce of over 1000.
