Herefordshire Council has been offered just over £2 million from the European Union and Defra through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development for a five-year programme to create jobs and support small businesses in the rural parishes of Herefordshire.
The LEADER Programme, which will be overseen by a local action group, will be used to support small businesses that are a fundamental part of the Herefordshire economy. Around 40 per cent of total costs will be available to support small and micro businesses in the county, and will also cover farming, rural tourism, heritage, culture, forestry and rural services.
“The programme is due to start later this year and full details about eligible projects and how to apply will be publicised nearer the time,” said Kathryn Lewis, a chartered surveyor with Davis Meade Property Consultants.
“We can advise on the suitability of projects so please contact us if you think you might be eligible,” she added.
