Chevrolet Orlando
Author: Ian Strachan
The first thing you notice about the Chevrolet Orlando is how long it is. Parked in a normal parking space, it seems to take up more than its fair share. But the benefit of its 4.65 metre length is an impressive amount of interior space.

Plus, the Orlando has a third row of seats which can be folded
neatly away when not in use without compromising the load space. In
fact, the whole interior is nicely thought out and spacious.
From the outside the Orlando is distinctive, with a nicely
designed two-deck front end showing off the famous Chevrolet badge
and a nicely styled rear end.
The roof has gently sloping lines while the waistline slopes
upwards towards the back. The attractive side-on view is enhanced
by black sill mouldings and very smart 18 inch alloys.
With its flat cabin floor, interior space is good, with adequate
leg room for all passengers. When the third row of seats is in use,
luggage space is naturally limited.
I test drove the Orlando 1.8i LTZ, which is powered by a very
sprightly 141 bhp petrol engine linked to a five-speed manual box.
This is a nice unit - quiet but gutsy - with good response through
the range. However, it could do with a sixth cog to keep the revs
down and help with fuel economy. Mixed driving fuel
consumption is 38.7 mpg.
The car comes well-equipped, with climate control, all-round
electric windows and mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensor,
all-round airbags and split rear seat all as standard, along with a
five year, 100,000 mile warranty.
This is quite a high vehicle, but thanks to a stiff body shell,
it handles like a car. Steering is balanced and precise, with good
feedback, and the ride is comfortable, even when fully loaded.
The Chevrolet Orlando isn't short of competition, but has enough
individuality to stand out from the crowd. This is a good package
which comes at £18,210 on the road.
