Select Lifestock launched to support farmers

A fourth generation Shropshire farming family, established in the county nearly 100 years ago, has launched a new company to help other farmers generate income by taking advantage of their cattle rearing experience.

Select Livestock, based near Shrewsbury, is run by father and son team John and Dan Morris who rear and grow around 1,000 cattle per year to supply leading beef processors and national prestige supermarkets.

John is a renowned local farmer who has been rearing beef cattle for over 50 years. Dan is a former supermarket account director and is experienced in all aspects of the food industry, and Iona, his wife, is a local farmer’s daughter with expertise in business marketing, development and administration.

Dan commented: “Formerly known as Premier Farm Marketing Ltd, we are now rebranding as Select Livestock and broadening our business direction to offer fellow farmers an extra source of income by utilising their existing, unused farm buildings.

“We supply calves for rearing or adult cattle for growing and pay a fixed price based on the cattle’s growth rate.”

“With our personal knowledge and experience built up over several decades in the industry we are able to bring a professional service to our calf rearers and growers, and ensure a secure supply of quality cattle for our customers.  We are on hand at all stages to provide advice with on-site visits as and when required to ensure that our cattle are in tip-top condition.”

Select Livestock is based at Black Lion Farm, Pulverbatch and has become far more than a management and marketing company within the farming community.  Dan continued: “We are working farmers ourselves, rearing and growing our own cattle, so we fully understand the day to day issues involved.

“The whole point of contract growing is to provide a guaranteed income over the rearing and growing stages in beef production and this is precisely what our business model does.  It is an excellent way of expanding a family farming business or encouraging the next generation with a new production system.”

The company has just teamed up with local marketing firm Key 3 Media of Shrewbury which has created a new bespoke website to provide information on rearing calves and cattle growing options.
