Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi hosts lunch for cancer centre

Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi is hosting an exclusive lunch to raise money for Solihull Hospital Charity and Heartlands Hospital Charity to fund the new cancer centre at Solihull Hospital.

This exclusive lunch takes place at Opus Restaurant on 20 April 2018 where Tony will be on hand to entertain guests with stories from his life and career with Black Sabbath, touring the world with one of the biggest bands of all time.

Tony has recently become Patron of the Ward 19 Charity, the dedicated cancer ward at Heartlands Hospital, and is supporting the charity’s campaign to raise £150,000 for an extension of cancer services at Solihull Hospital.

This new chemotherapy unit will increase the amount of cancer patients who can be treated by 170%, reducing waiting times, reducing stress and creating a calm and relaxing atmosphere for patients.

Tony said:

“My friend was treated for cancer on the Ward 19 and I went along with him on a few occasions to support him. I was blown away by the commitment of the staff on the ward, they’re a fantastic team and I wanted to do something to support them.

“It’s fantastic that there is going to be a new facility at Solihull Hospital to treat patients with cancer, and I’d encourage everyone to support the Charity’s campaign to help cancer patients across Birmingham and the West Midlands.”

Justine Davy, head of fundraising for the hospital charity, said:

“I am delighted to have Tony’s support as the charity launches this new appeal to extend cancer services to Solihull Hospital.

“The lunch will be a fun and entertaining way to raise money for the new unit and to hear more from Tony about his life as one of the best and most famous guitarists of all time!”

This prestigious lunch includes a three course meal and reception drinks. Tickets are £100 each or £950 for a table of ten. There will also be the chance to win some incredible Black Sabbath prizes at a raffle that will be drawn over the course of the afternoon.
