Birmingham Settlement’s Erdington shop held a double celebration to mark the 25th anniversary of its opening and the contribution made by their longest standing volunteer.
Many local businesses, customers and volunteers donated cakes and prizes for the event and customers took full advantage, enjoying tea and cakes as they shopped.
All of the volunteers who have helped to run the shop were recognised, with a display showing all current and previous names, but a special presentation was made to Barbara Plank, the shop’s longest-standing volunteer, who has been at the shop since the very beginning! Originally a cure for boredom after retiring early, Barbara has dedicated a quarter of a century to working there, and is hugely valued.
Manageress Linda Hyland said, “Despite erratic weather that day, the atmosphere was fantastic. Our celebrations, combined with the buzz around the Diamond Jubilee weekend, meant there was a great turn out and it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.”
