Birmingham restaurants join fight to end child hunger

Restaurants across Birmingham are joining Action Against Hunger’s Love Food Give Food Campaign. The premise of the campaign is simple: restaurants add an optional £1 to the bill or donate a percentage of the proceeds of a menu item. The money raised goes towards fighting hunger around the world.

The recent UN State of Food Security report has shown that global hunger levels have risen for a third consecutive year. Today, more than a quarter of the world’s population -2 billion people- don’t have enough food to eat. That is why, as the world leading charity in the fight against hunger, the organisation is hoping that this year will see a record number of restaurants joining the fight.

Amongst the Birmingham restaurants signed up for the campaign are: Adam’s, Aluna Birmingham, Fazenda Birmingham, Pho Birmingham, Siamais, Tapas Revolution Birmingham, Tattu Birmingham, The Butlers Arms, The Plough, Zen Metro and Thirty Thousand Restaurant.

Nicki Flanders, from Adam’s restaurant on Birmingham’s Waterloo Street, said “We think we’re the first generation to be very aware of the issues affecting the worlds population, and whilst we don’t have the power to help on a large scale, we know that being a part of the Love Food Give Food campaign is going to help individuals in both the short term and the long term. It’s a campaign that will always have our support and we wholeheartedly encourage others within the food industry to support it alongside us.”

Matthew White, Director of Fundraising & Communications at Action Against Hunger, said “It’s fantastic to have so many restaurants in Birmingham joining this year’s campaign. Everybody who eats at a participating restaurant will be helping us provide life-saving nutrition for a child in need.

“Now, we just need the people of Birmingham to come and support their local restaurants! Every £1 raised can provide a day’s worth of life-saving and nutritious food for a child in need. So not only will you be enjoying a good meal and supporting a local restaurant, you will also be helping to change the lives of thousands of children around the world.”

Action Against Hunger’s flagship Love Food Give Food campaign has been running for 10 years and, thanks to the generosity of the restaurant industry, has raised more than £3 million to date.
