More than 100 Lincolnshire care home staff have been recognised for their work achievements at a recent awards ceremony.

The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), the UK’s second largest not for profit care home provider, held the 2009 Lincolnshire Care Awards for staff across its 16 homes in the county at Fosse House in Lincoln on 5 June.

Certificates were awarded to staff, who achieved NVQs in Care, Housekeeping and Catering, as well as City and Guilds, Moving and Handling and Supervisory Management qualifications.  The certificates were presented in front of past and present Trustees, colleagues and family.

The highlight of the afternoon came when five special certificates and gifts were awarded for the first time, including Leader of the Year, Unsung Hero, Employer of the year (over 25) and (under 25) and Learner of the Year, with Mel Killelay being announced as the Lincolnshire Care Awards overall winner for her commitment to Foxby Court at Gainsborough and its residents.  Lord Remnant, Patron of OSJCT, presented these awards.

Long service awards for 25 and 30 years service to the Trust were also recognised.

Speaking at the ceremony, Nigel Reed OSJCT’s Chief Executive said, “The awards ceremony is an opportunity for colleagues, residents, friends and partners of OSJCT to come together to celebrate the hard work shown by our team and say a big thank you to all of our staff.

“We are extremely proud of the high standards of care it provides and we recognise that this is down to the dedication shown by everyone who works in the Trust.”

Mel Killelay who has worked for the Trust for 17 years said, “I’m shocked and overwhelmed. I really didn’t expect to win these awards today, in fact, I still can’t believe it!”
