Following hot on the heels of its merger with SGH Martineau in June this year, Shakespeare Martineau has today merged with London-based commercial law firm, Macrae & Co LLP.Formerly based in Cannon Street, the five-strong team of lawyers and support staff will be joining Shakespeare Martineau’s London office, situated in Crosswall.

Having trained at Macrae & Co LLP approximately 30 years ago, two of the firm’s partners, Ravi Goonesena and Julian Turnbull have played an integral role in the smooth transition of the deal and are very positive about the benefits the merger brings.

Andy Raynor, CEO at Shakespeare Martineau, said: “We have a strong commercial personality and Macrae & Co are a natural fit. Completing this merger demonstrates our commitment to giving our clients access to the best talent available and the team at Macrae & Co brings significant benefits to not only the London office but the firm as a whole.”

Following the merger completion, Ravi Goonesena, partner at Macrae & Co LLP, said: “With a wide range of corporate and commercial synergies, we believe that both firms are highly complementary in terms of practice areas, specialisms and work ethic.”

Julian Turnbull, partner at Macrae & Co LLP, added: “We are looking forward to joining the corporate team of a firm that is recognised as a strong and dynamic law firm. Our expertise smoothly dovetails with that of Shakespeare Martineau and this will enable us to deliver even better results to our clients and together we will get more heavily involved in large-scale transactional work.”
