A Belper-based lingerie and nightwear company is keeping people warm around the world this winter.
During what is expected to be UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) biggest ever Export Week, a week designed to help businesses to start exporting or to expand their export activity, Slenderella have announced new overseas orders worth over £25,000, less than four months after beginning to work with UKTI.
A new national campaign, Exporting is GREAT, will also start today targeting almost 3 million people with the ambition of generating 3,000 appointments with UKTI Advisers and driving £1.2 billion in export revenue from the leads it generates.
The firm, which employs 12 people at its offices and warehouse, produces high quality thermal underwear and luxury dressing gowns, alongside its newly introduced tiger print onesie.
The firm identified that they needed to improve and grow their exports at the start of the year, and after finding out more about UKTI, they began working closely with International Trade Adviser Jo Marriott.
Ashley Spendlove, Marketing and Sales Manager, said: “Since we began working with UKTI earlier this year, we have visited the Paris and Poznan fashion trade shows where we have received orders from around 30 customers, from locations as far afield as Australia, Russia, Spain, Greece, Canada, Lebanon, Poland and France.
“We wouldn’t have been able to do this without UKTI’s help and the work of our export adviser Jo Marriott.
“At the trade fashion show in Poznan, Poland, we also received a lot of interest and managed to secure a very large distributor in Eastern Europe, as well as press coverage and articles in several languages.
“Jo recommended we attend the two trade shows and the UKTI Passport to Export course. Over the two shows we have received orders worth over £25,000, which was unthinkable for a small firm like ours,s exhibiting for the first time. What people really like is the high quality of our products, which we pride ourselves on.
“We have now created an export plan and have commissioned agents in Scandinavia and Germany where we expect further orders. I would recommend UKTI to any other small company – without them we would not have received the orders we have.”
Jo Marriot, International Trade Adviser for UKTI said: “I’m so glad we could help this great firm. They offer extremely high quality products which have a strong following in the UK, so it was immediately apparent to me that they would be successful around the world. It’s good to see a small British company getting such a strong international reaction so quickly.
“I hope that other firms will read about this success and want to contact UKTI to find out how we can help. This is what Export Week is about. We want small and medium firms to explore what is on offer to them overseas. We can advise on the best markets for the firms and he best way to reach them.
