Hockley-based Cleone Foods has created a MEGA 50” Island Delight Patty to celebrate Jamaica’s 50th Anniversary of Independence (6th Aug.1962 – 6th Aug. 2012) and hope to create a World Record in the process.

The oversized patty was later donated to residents of Trinity House in Hansworth via the Birmingham Central Foodbank.

Cleone Foods MD, Wade Lyn, commented: “What a fantastic way to celebrate our 50th anniversary of independence and at the same time help our local community.

“It’s fingers crossed on our World Record attempt though as we won’t know for some time if we’ve baked an Island Delight World Record Breaking Patty, officially being acknowledged as the largest patty ever made, and then very quickly consumed!”

Cleone Foods have been baking and producing authentic recipe Jamaican patties in Birmingham since 1989, being the very first UK company to produce an authentic Jamaican patty product sold through supermarkets.

“Baking such a magnificent patty and taking part in the ‘Jamaica in the Square’ event in Birmingham’s Victoria Square was simply inspiring and gratifying knowing we were joining in with many other Jamaican communities across the country as we all simultaneously joined in with the Jamaican High Commission Flag Raising event at the O2 Arena in London.” said Wade.
