A new course giving people the chance to learn how to create their own website video will be launched at The Academy in Shrewsbury next month. The one day course will be held at the training centre on Old Potts Way on September 21 with an optional half day follow up on October 2.

Peter Sims, director of Shrewsbury-based 7 Video who has teamed up with The Academy as a strategic partner, said: “As a professional videography company we’re passionate about all businesses using video on their websites – the benefits are clear.

“Obviously if you need expert support and top level quality that’s where companies like 7 Video come into the frame.
“But video-blogging with a simple portable camera is a good entry level option when you don’t need broadcast standard material.

“This course by The Academy looks to be a highly practical way of introducing people to the many benefits of using video in business.”

Toby Poulsom, principal at The Academy said it was a great opportunity for businesses. “By the end of the first day everyone will know how to shoot a three-minute video clip. They will have learned how to generate snappy content for their video.

They will have been in front of the camera and learned what the best angles and lighting are and they’ll have lots of fun along the way,” he said.

Course members will have the option to return for a further half-day and learn how to use the free editing software to compile the clip they filmed during the two-day course.

Richard Sheehan, managing director of Shropshire Chamber of Commerce which runs The Academy as a separate business said: “This course is just one example of how The Academy can support business growth by focusing on practical skills.

“By speaking to our local experts, such as 7 Video, we can identify some of the key areas businesses may want to consider as ways to improve their visibility and profitability.

“We are keeping our courses affordable so they are accessible to all businesses of all sizes because everyone deserves that support and opportunity to develop.

“All of our courses are delivered by genuine experts in their particular industry so everyone knows they are getting the best possible advice and training here at The Academy.”

Mr Poulsom added: “By the end of this two day course people will have the know-how to create short videos for their websites and will have done everything from filming the video to editing a clip ready for publishing on their website.”
A further photography course will also be held at The Academy by local photographer Richard Franklin for people who are keen to conquer their fears of the complex menus and technical jargon of digital cameras.

The introduction to digital photography course will run every Monday from August 13 to September 3 from 6.30pm to 9pm at The Academy and costs £95.
