A printmaking artist at Derby College will be exhibiting and talking about his work at an international convention in Japan next month.
Dan Alexander (40) who is a Team Manager in the Academic Studies and the Arts faculty at Derby College, has been invited by organisers of the 6th International Kyoto Hanga 2012 print exhibition at the Kyoto City Art Museum.
Dan will be exhibiting a number of large-scale photographic etchings depicting a mythical mountain range in Southern Spain called the Cordillera Camorro, and will also be talking about his work to invited guests at the gallery.
His work was shipped to Japan and has been hung by curators throughout July in preparation for the exhibition opening on July 31 until August 12.
Dan explained: “Since completing an MA in Printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts in South London, I have been fortunate enough to win a major national award for my work and be involved in a number of exciting exhibition projects.
“Last year I was contacted by the exhibition curators who were looking for contemporary British printmakers using new and unconventional methods to show their work in Japan – a country with a long-established history on the subject.
“It is going to be quite an honour to exhibit alongside some well-respected and established names in British printmaking on the other side of the globe.”
