Each spoon is being hand-painted with miniature portraits of College staff and students

South Staffordshire College students are again designing, painting and producing artwork made entirely from teaspoons all in preparation for a display at the College’s Rodbaston Hall.

The Art and Design Level 3 Extended Diploma 1st year students are making the mural display, consisting of 320 teaspoons provided by local supplier Arthur Price to create a replica of the College logo.

Arthur Price is Lichfield’s flagship Fairtrade Employer and was on hand last year to help art and design students on a similar project in support of Fairtrade Fortnight.

Each spoon is being hand-painted with miniature portraits of College staff and students and all four corporate campus colours are being painted on the handles. The finished artwork will then be mounted and installed at the newly refurbished Rodbaston Hall, with an unveiling ceremony later in the year.

Andy Nash, Art and Design Course Co-ordinator, said the mural also provides students with an impressive addition into their portfolio when presenting to future employers.

“The students are working really hard on the project from their initial brief, to creating design plans and precise painting of the portraits. They’re combining conceptual and practical skills to create a unique and original artwork and our association with Arthur Price which goes back more than two decades is a wonderful example of the kind of working partnership that South Staffordshire College enjoys with businesses both national and local.”
