Tight security surrounded a cache of chocolate – donated to charity by a specialist confectioners and guarded by a Shropshire security firm.

But it was all in good fun and for an EGGcellent cause with Telford’s Magna Specialist Confectioners linking up with security guards from the RMP Group to distribute 2,000 Easter eggs to needy children in the region.

Another six giant Easter eggs weighing in at a mouth watering 22lbs each and reaching a height of 2ft tall are also due to be handed over for charity raffles.

The annual chocolate giveaway is organised each year by Magna and the RMP Group, neighbouring businesses in Stafford Park, Telford. The RMP Group, which runs a specialist security services guarding compounds, building sites and businesses across the Midlands, volunteer to deliver the Easter eggs to schools, nurseries, children’s wards and care homes.

This year the charity duo has called in the help of Telford and Wrekin Council to find even more charity recipients.

“Magna makes top chocolate and they have a heart of gold and we join with them every year to put a smile on the faces of children, many of whom have had a tough time,” said RMP Group’s charity co-ordinator Phil Connaughton.

“This year we have asked for the help of Telford and Wrekin Council to draw up a list of groups that they are involved in so that we can distribute the chocolate to deprived children.

“The Easter eggs are securely locked away in our compound as we have some very large security guards who are susceptible to a bit of chocolate,” he added.

Asda supermarket has joined the charity initiative and will raffle one of the giant Easter eggs at its Donnington store on April 1 with funds going to two nursery schools in Randlay and to the Shooting Stars gym club to buy new equipment.

The remaining five large Easter eggs will be raffled for a variety of charities.
