Tales for the open top bus tour

Lincoln people with interesting anecdotes and stories about the city's landmarks and special places, are being urged to share them and help to get Lincoln's newest attraction off to a flying start.

Lincoln BIG, which has teamed-up with Stagecoach to mastermind the exciting return of the Lincoln Open Top Tour Bus - at Easter - wants to hear from anyone with quirky tales and little-known facts which could be included in its tour guides' commentary .

Lincoln Big chief executive Matt Corrigan said: "We are thrilled to be relaunching this service and we are determined to make it even more popular than its forerunner - which last operated in 2004.

"We are currently advertising for enthusiastic and knowledgeable people to join the team of guides which we are recruiting for this new service and we want to ensure they have a sparkling commentary and some great stories to share with passengers.

"Lincoln has some fine buildings, a wealth of history and also fantastic modern-day attractions.  We are sure that local people will have some interesting personal anecdotes about these, which will help to make our tour bus service unforgettable."

The Open Top Tour Bus returns to the streets as the Visit Lincoln Partnership starts to step-up its drive to attract more daytrippers and longer-staying visitors to Lincoln, and the "snapshot tour" is expected to play a key role in helping to spread the word about Lincoln.

The bus will operate for 110 days from Easter (three-day weekend), at May Bank Holiday, for the Jubilee, daily between July 1 and September 2 and at weekends until  the end of October.

Lincoln's Visitor Information Centre Manager Michele Sims said: "The tour bus will introduce visitors to attractions and areas, such as Lincoln Cathedral, Bailgate, the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, The Castle, The Lawn, High Street, Brayford and St Mark's.

"We are already being contacted by people who are keen to join our bank of tour guides, but we are pleased to hear from more. We hope people will let us have their anecdotes about their home city and its highlights because we feel these will help to make the Open Top Tour Bus an outstanding service," added Ms Sims.
