Savvy move by homes' expert

Estate agent Sean Mayers has invested in his own strategic move, which has created extra choice and three new jobs in Lincoln.

And such is his confidence in the uptapped potential of Lincolnshire's sales and letting market, that he is hoping to employ a team of up to 15 staff in the city within the coming year.

Buoyed-up by the success of his Northwood franchise in Doncaster, which has been open for four years, Mr Mayers decided that Lincolnshire and the surrounding market offered an unmissable expansion opportunity.

And Lincoln-based commercial agent Banks Long & Co helped him find his ideal premises in Silver Street - the traditional home for Lincoln's established and up-and-coming agencies and financial services businesses.

"We offer traditional estate agency services but we also specialise in guaranteed lettings, whereby we guarantee to pay a landlord his rent irrespective of whether or not he has a tenant in his premises. Northwood currently offers this service to 9,000 landlords across the UK," said Mr Mayers.

"Lincoln is a nice market and particularly busy on the lettings front. But it is also an ideal base from which to service customers across an area which also takes in the wider county and neighbouring locations, including Gainsborough, Horncastle, Louth, Skegness, Mablethorpe, Newark and Retford.

"I believe there is a lot of room for expansion locally on both the sales and lettings sides. My Doncaster franchise has done particularly well, thanks to the strength of the Northwood brand. I now employ ten people across both my offices, but I hope to have 15 people working out of Lincoln alone over the next year," added Mr Mayers.

Banks Long & Co director James Butcher said: "We are pleased to have  let this prime site office in Silver Street on behalf of private clients.

"This is a popular area with estate agents and the vast majority of those firms practising in Lincoln and the surrounding area are situated on Silver Street.

"Therefore when I was approached by Sean last year looking for premises I knew this property would ideal for him. The premises link through to Clasketgate, which means the business benefits from a profile to two busy city streets."
