Businesses are being invited to attend a major jobs event in
Nottingham on 8 February - when key speakers will discuss
opportunities available for employers.
To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week 2012, the Invest
in Nottingham Club is holding an event focusing on jobs and the
support available to companies via Nottingham City Council's Job
Fund, the National Apprenticeship Service and the opportunities
being created by Nottingham's universities.
The Mercure Nottingham City Hotel in George Street is hosting
and part sponsoring the free breakfast event which starts at
7.30am. The Mercure's owner and founder of the exclusive London
Town Hotels is Koolesh Shah who will welcome delegates. This
boutique hotel is itself an exemplar with its own recruitment and
training.
Other speakers include: Michael Nicol, director of employment
engagement, East Midlands of The National Apprenticeship Service
who will give a presentation on how it aims to increase the number
of apprenticeships by working with employers and learners through a
dedicated service. Thanks to the NAS work, employers can see the
value that being involved in apprenticeships can bring to their
organisations.
Stephen McAuliffe, director of the careers and employability
centre at The University of Nottingham will focus on student and
graduate talent and how they can help businesses to develop
as well as highlight some of the specific achievements of
Nottingham students in the region and around the globe.
Dr Polly Pick and Barbara Sargent from Nottingham Trent
University will be talking about their experiences with in-company
and sponsored degrees and how Nottingham Business School has
collaborated with several companies including Rolls Royce and
Experian, to develop fully sponsored three year programmes to
encourage future management talent within the organisations.
John Yarham, director for economic innovation & skills at
Nottingham Jobs Fund will be giving a presentation on the
Nottingham Jobs Fund, a new three year, £1.5m scheme designed
to support Nottingham-based employers and young unemployed people
who live within the city. He will give details on how businesses
can access the fund.
