Businesses are being invited to attend a major jobs event in Nottingham on 8 February - when key speakers will discuss opportunities available for employers.

To coincide with National Apprenticeship Week 2012, the Invest in Nottingham Club is holding an event focusing on jobs and the support available to companies via Nottingham City Council's Job Fund, the National Apprenticeship Service and the opportunities being created by Nottingham's universities.

The Mercure Nottingham City Hotel in George Street is hosting and part sponsoring the free breakfast event which starts at 7.30am. The Mercure's owner and founder of the exclusive London Town Hotels is Koolesh Shah who will welcome delegates. This boutique hotel is itself an exemplar with its own recruitment and training.

Other speakers include: Michael Nicol, director of employment engagement, East Midlands of The National Apprenticeship Service who will give a presentation on how it aims to increase the number of apprenticeships by working with employers and learners through a dedicated service. Thanks to the NAS work, employers can see the value that being involved in apprenticeships can bring to their organisations.

Stephen McAuliffe, director of the careers and employability centre at The University of Nottingham will focus on student and graduate talent and how they can help businesses  to develop as well as highlight some of the specific achievements of Nottingham students in the region and around the globe.

Dr Polly Pick and Barbara Sargent from Nottingham Trent University will be talking about their experiences with in-company and sponsored degrees and how Nottingham Business School has collaborated with several companies including Rolls Royce and Experian, to develop fully sponsored three year programmes to encourage future management talent within the organisations.

John Yarham, director for economic innovation & skills at Nottingham Jobs Fund will be giving a presentation on the Nottingham Jobs Fund, a new three year, £1.5m scheme designed to support Nottingham-based employers and young unemployed people who live within the city. He will give details on how businesses can access the fund.
