Notts aerospace firm reaches industry standard

A Nottinghamshire aerospace firm has been recognised for its world class delivery and performance by a major industry standard.

Midland Aerospace, based in Sutton-in-Ashfield, has achieved and SC21 Bronze Award because of its commitment to quality and delivery on behalf of its clients such as Airbus, GKN and BAE Systems.

The firm makes and delivers parts to those companies - and more - when time is of the essence and they need a very quick turnaround speed on five-axis parts but when quality must remain extremely high.

The company committed to achieving SC21, a project managed in the region by The Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA) designed to improve the competitiveness of companies throughout the supply chain, helping them compete successfully against overseas competitors in the global aerospace and defence markets.

By achieving the Bronze Award, Midland Aerospace has proved its standards are extremely high and managing director Eamon Lyons said it had added significant value to the business.

He said: "We have always had a commitment to making quality products and offering the best possible service - that is why we have continued to win repeat work.

"But SC21 has helped to focus the mind and we have formalised our processes and the way we record On Time In Full (OTIF), which has always been a very important measure for us.

"Rather than believing we deliver a very high level of service to customers, we know it is true now because of the measures we have in place.

"There is nothing mandatory about having SC21 in our industry but we are proud to have it and we are pleased to promote it and when we talk about SC21 in presentations it is certainly being noticed when we are going for new work in the UK and it may start to open doors in Europe in the future.

"We now have the procedures to make sure we use our SC21 award in a more efficient and effective way and I believe it is already adding value to the business."

Midland Aerospace has also started to diversify into other industries such as gas and oil.

Tim Holmes, manager for MAA, said: "SC21 gives businesses in aerospace and defence markets a chance to prove that they meet the very highest standards and to benchmark themselves.

"When current and potential clients see that they have this standard, it sends out a signal that they are truly world class."
