Charity campaign pays off

Kind-hearted staff from a Shrewsbury firm have raised over £2,000 for charity in a year-long campaign.

Dyke Yaxley Chartered Accountants, in Old Potts Way, nominated the Down's Syndrome Association as its selected charity at the start of the last financial year.

And now, with just weeks to go before the end of their 12-month effort, they have beaten their target by over £500.

Jackie Young, who is part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility team and who helped to organise the initiative, said they were delighted to have beaten their target well before their end-of-year deadline.

"Our latest two events were a quiz night which raised £600, in which 12 teams took part at the Reabrook Social Club, and a poker night which raised £250 at The Peacock Inn, in Shrewsbury.

"We're very grateful to all the Dyke Yaxley staff and directors, friends and family who took part, and to colleagues from Henshalls Insurance Brokers and Kingsland Wealth Management who also joined us for the special events."

Other events organised during the year have included cake sales, a Grand National sweep, and Christmas card message board.

Their success this year follows an incredible effort in the previous 12 months when the company raised £21,500 for charity.

Managing director, Helen Thomas, said: "We're very proud of our entire team who have really thrown themselves into a wide variety of activities in order to raise as much cash as possible for good causes."

Other charity efforts by the firm have included:

*A joint partnership with the Save the Children shop in Shrewsbury, where staff donated unwanted items to be sold in aid of the cause

*A trek to Everest Base Camp to raise almost £4,000 for The Alzheimer's Society

*Running the London Marathon to raise money for Get Kids Going - a charity which supports young disabled athletes

*A race night to raise over £400 for The Alzheimer's Society
