Women's gym launch set to WOW Telford

An exciting new gym has just opened in Telford, and is set to revolutionise how women in and around the town work out.

Women Only Workout, or WOW as it's fast become known, is the brainchild of Gym Instructor Bryony Walters and qualified Nurse and Therapist Sara Beardsley, and they're celebrating the business launch with an open weekend, bravely starting on Friday the 13th!

"Some people have a natural nervousness around Friday the 13th because of all of the superstitions" explained Bryony, "but we're at Unit 13 on Hortonwood 50 in Telford, and it's always been a lucky number for us so we decided we couldn't miss the chance to celebrate on the day itself."

The Open Weekend will run across Friday 13th and Saturday 14th January, and visitors will be able to try out the resistance training circuit as well as meet the new owners. "We'll also have a beauty room on site offering traditional treatments as well as a range of holistic therapies like reflexology, body massage, and hopi ear candling. Our beautician Kerri and Holistic Therapist Sara will be offering free taster treatments throughout the weekend" Bryony added.

Bryony and Sara took over an existing gym facility to house their new business, and have been working hard to transform the space into something more suitable for their clients. "It's certainly been hard work, but we've loved every minute of it" explained Sara, "and I'm really looking forward to throwing open our doors to the women of Telford next weekend."

Designed very much by women, for women, the gym's entire team is female, just one aspect where the founders feel they are doing business in a very different way. "Most ladies associate gyms with men, equipment that looks difficult to understand and work, and lycra-clad people that are already fit as fiddles. This can create a very intimidating impression, which is one we're keen to shatter. We believe getting fit shouldn't be a chore or be time-consuming, it should be convenient and fun, which is why we'll work closely with each of our members to help achieve their goals, whether it's losing weight, toning up, improving fitness, or gaining confidence" Bryony explained.

"It's the norm for gyms to tie people into 12 month contracts, but that isn't something that we're comfortable with at all. We passionately believe our members should only pay for our services if they are actually using and enjoying our gym, which is why our membership runs on a rolling month-to-month basis, with no minimum term at all, a rare offer within the industry. That way, there's no pressure to commit to a long-term costly contract."

Based around ten resistance training stations, the gym's workout has been carefully designed to be low impact and so reduce the risk of any injuries. "As a trained nurse I've seen countless post-surgery patients really struggle to start getting active and mobile, and for most a traditional gym is just not an option" explained Sara. "Our circuit is perfect for everyone though - whether they're looking to increase mobility and flexibility, or they're at the other end of the fitness spectrum and are in serious training. In fact one of our newest members is completing a triathlon in April, so the circuit really can push you as far as you need."

The circuit is carefully designed for women to work on every muscle group to give a total body workout. Members spend just 30 seconds on each station, and then in between do cardio exercises on recovery boards. "The circuit is completed three times, so takes just 30 minutes, making it perfect to fit in with your day, you could even fit it into your lunch hour," Bryony explained.

In addition to unlimited access to the gym circuits, seven days per week, Zumba Circuits Classes are included in the membership, and free access is provided to the gym's Vibration Plates, where ten minutes of training is said to be equivalent to a whole hour of regular gym training.
