A major event in the lighting industry is moving to Birmingham
in 2012.
The spotlight will turn on the National Exhibition Centre (NEC)
in summer 2012 as euroLED hosts its ninth annual exhibition,
conference and gala dinner
The event, organised by Birmingham Science Park Aston (BSPA),
attracts leading figures in the lighting industry and brings
together the latest innovations throughout the LED and
Solid-State Lighting technology supply chain
Solid-State Lighting refers to lighting types that use a variety
of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to illuminate, as opposed to
electric filaments, gas or plasma. This innovative form of lighting
is said to offer massive energy-saving potential.
More than 2,000 visitors from around 30 countries are expected
to attend the event at the NEC on June 13 and 14.
It is hoped that the event will encourage even more
international technology innovation events to the city.
Formerly held at Coventry's Ricoh Arena, it is the first time
the popular exhibition, conference and gala dinner has been held at
the Birmingham venue, and this relocation to the NEC follows a
number of other events from the Ricoh in recent times including TCT
live and MM Live.
The move will ensure that euroLED can grow for the future while
harnessing the international appeal of the NEC to attract a bigger
global audience to the event.
BSPA, which is owned by Birmingham City Council and sees itself
as a vital part of the city's regeneration agenda, operates to
drive innovation in Birmingham and the West Midlands region.
Sarah Curtis, New Business Account Manager at the NEC, said: "We
are very pleased to be hosting such a prestigious event. EuroLED
will bring innovations in technology to the heart of the events
scene in Birmingham.
"Growth in Birmingham is key to BSPA's vision and hosting their
event at the NEC adds to the science park's aspirations for the
future. We will be delighted to welcome delegates to the NEC from
the UK, Europe, the US, the Far East and many other parts of the
world for euroLED."
The NEC occupies a 610-acre site and is able to offer flexible
exhibition and conference space covering 186,000 square metres over
20 interconnecting halls. The venue welcomes around 2.1million
visitors every year. The euroLED event will occupy a 3,000sqm
exhibition space within one of the halls, with the conference
element taking place in the NEC's largest conference space, the
Concourse Suite, which will be redressed and transformed for the
evening's gala dinner.
Michelle Cleaver, Event s Manager of BSPA, said: "Our move to
the NEC in 2012 will allow euroLED to continue its rapid expansion.
The space and flexibility on offer at the venue, combined with
excellent national and international transport links, means that
the exhibition and conference can accommodate the growing band of
delegates who want to be first in line for news and information
about LED and solid-state lighting.
"We see Birmingham as a leader in regeneration through
innovation and euroLED stands out as a leading event for the
lighting industry. It is hoped that the move to the NEC will
encourage future growth, not just for euroLED, and will help to
continue to attract other innovative technology events to our
forward-thinking city and region."
