A Shropshire health club business is planning to offer
affordable fitness across the UK by launching new franchised
versions of its successful formula.
Bodytech, which owns facilities in Shrewsbury, Oswestry,
Whitchurch, Market Drayton and Chester, believe its unique formula
of personally run health & fitness clubs is a perfect business
opportunity for entrepreneurs looking for a new venture.
Jeff Anderson founded Bodytech Health Clubs in 1998 when he
opened his first club, (now the company's head office) in
Shrewsbury, Shropshire. In 2006 Jeff, along with his business
partner Peter Metcalfe, opened the second club in Market Drayton,
followed by Whitchurch and Chester in 2007 and Oswestry (which has
recently doubled in size) in 2009.
Bodytech prides itself on offering a personal service to its
members, including regular one-to-one personal training sessions at
no extra cost. The shape, size and culture of its unique clubs have
proved to be an optimum gym business model in these tough economic
times. A typical Bodytech Health Club has a floor area of between
8,000 to 10,000 square feet.
While large national chains with high costs have struggled,
Bodytech has flourished, which Jeff attributes to its friendly,
personal and affordable approach. Jeff said: "This is a great
opportunity for anyone seeking to start their own business with a
proven business model, backed by very experienced business
professionals.
"Having built our chain over the past 14 years we have created a
powerful, well-known brand and have accumulated a great deal of
experience."
The Bodytech franchising team has around 70 combined years of
business experience. Jeff was a director in the petrochemical
industry prior to starting the gyms. Peter was in the Royal Navy
and a fitness manager on cruise ships, and fellow director Nick
Blackbourn was a successful senior manager in the food, drink and
film industry and now runs his own law firm.
Franchising gives a new business owner the best of both worlds;
the independence of running their own business, but with the
support of an established one.
Jeff believes the model can easily be replicated in other small
market towns, a belief which has been tried, tested and proven. He
believes a business in such towns is not threatened by the new
trend for impersonal budget gyms, because the population is too
small to support such operations.
"What we offer is very different to the big gym chains and
that's why people like us" added Jeff. "Our success is down to
offering a unique service to a specific market and we are excited
about sharing that formula with others who have the same beliefs
and motivation as ourselves."
Jeff added "We already have several interested parties on board
and we would like to invite others to contact us should they be
keen to join us on this venture."
