A fitness enthusiast has fulfilled his dream of opening his own gym in a village in Telford after spending £50,000 on his venture to help people get fit.

Vishav Singh has spent the last four weeks working around the clock to transform the former empty unit on Bridges Business Park in Horsehay into the Fitness Factory.

The 24-year-old said he was overwhelmed to have signed up 40 members within 48 hours of opening the doors - especially as he opened on New Year's Day.

Mr Singh, from Priorslee said: "The response so far has been fantastic. People in the Horsehay, Lawley, Dawley, Lightmoor and Ironbridge areas haven't had a gym this close before.

"We have had people walking down to have a look and signing up there and then because of the convenience and for people further afield we have extensive parking right outside the door so it's an ideal location."

Mr Singh said he had chosen not to include facilities such as a sauna as he said he wanted people to come and simply "get fit".

"Regardless of age or ability, everyone can get fit and improve their health and that's what we are here to help people do.

"We have the dedicated ladies area which is in a separate room so people who may feel a little shy or intimidated by training in front of men can also enjoy the gym experience and can get fit by enjoying 30-minute workout sessions on the 12 air resistance machines," he said.

Mr Singh, who made a career change from a quality engineer to become a personal trainer and fitness instructor, said he had been saving for three years to realise his dream.

He said he wanted to give everyone the opportunity to access the gym so has included a pay-as-you-go scheme for £3 a session to avoid people signing up to contracts.

"Fitness Factory is of a size which means staff can see everyone and give advice if they see any customers doing anything wrong.

"We are also qualified to give advice on nutrition and diet alongside the exercise programmes. This is very exciting and I hope it will become such a success we will be offering more job opportunities and give a boost to the village of Horsehay," Mr Singh added.

Everyone is offered a free taster session and induction and the first 50 people to join will pay £15 a month. Mr Singh said he did not make people sign a contract or pay a joining fee and also offered one-to-one personal training.
