Michelin staff's fund-raising efforts raise thousands for Midlands Air Ambulance

Michelin staff have proven themselves fund-raising high flyers by generating thousands of pounds to pay for vital new equipment for the Midlands Air Ambulance charity.

Employees at Michelin's Stoke-on-Trent site raised the money for the Midlands Air Ambulance after it was nominated by staff as the Company's charity for 2011. The  staff raised £5,116 through a series of fund-raising activities including the Bike4Life ride, a Stoke City FA Cup ticket raffle, dress-down days, cake sales, quizzes and a Christmas market.

In recognition of its staff's fantastic fund-raising efforts, Michelin matched the £5,116 generated by employees to establish a final total of £10,232. The Michelin donation will be used by the Midlands Air Ambulance to buy new ventilators for all three of its helicopters.

Stef Langford Brown, Corporate Fundraising Manager for the Midlands Air Ambulance, said: "We are very grateful to Michelin and its staff for the ten thousand pounds plus donation. The money will be put to extremely good use in enabling Midlands Air Ambulance to buy new ventilators for all three helicopters.

"These are vital for instances when a patient is no longer breathing - if the body is starved of oxygen for more than 4 minutes, brain damage can occur. The hard work of all the staff at the Campbell Road site over the last year will enable us to ensure we offer the best in patient care and continue operating our life saving service."

Corinne Li, Michelin Stoke-on-Trent's Charity Co-ordinator, said: "We are very pleased to have supported the Midlands Air Ambulance during 2011 as our chosen charity. All of the staff really got into the spirit of things and showed consistent support for all the fund-raising events we held throughout the year.

"It's wonderful that Michelin matched our efforts, so that we can finish with such a substantial final total to give to the charity. We are all thrilled that the money raised will go towards playing such a vital role in saving lives and sustaining the essential assistance provided by the Midlands Air Ambulance service."
