The Law Society and Solicitors Regulation Authority have
confirmed they are taking 57,000sq ft of office space at
Birmingham's landmark scheme, The Cube, in what is set to be the
Midlands' biggest Grade A property deal of the year and ending
months of speculation. The Cube will become the new headquarters of
the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and the base for the team of
support staff who provide services to both the SRA and Law
Society.
The move comes as the SRA and Law Society consolidate their
Redditch and Leamington Spa offices to create offices for 700
employees in the prime city centre location. They will occupy all
of the remaining large office floors at The Cube, which will
provide a modern working environment.
The 'BREEAM Excellent' offices offer flexible space configured
around a central atrium, allowing the Law Society and SRA to tailor
the design to their needs while optimising the superb views of the
city. Staff will be safe and secure which is of paramount
importance for employers in city centre locations. The fit out
starts early in the New Year for occupation by the middle of 2012.
The Society will join existing office tenants, The Highways Agency,
and design consultancy IBI Group.
Neil Edginton, Director at The Cube, said:
"We're delighted to welcome the Law Society and the SRA to what
we firmly believe is Birmingham's best business address. What's
more, this fantastic news marks the end of what's been a really
exciting year at The Cube. In just twelve months, we've attracted a
range of new names to the city including the City's first panoramic
rooftop restaurant, Marco's by Marco Pierre White, as well as Hotel
Indigo and the Club & Spa health resort."
Desmond Hudson, CEO of the Law Society, said:
"We've taken time to view a range of options which best fit our
criteria before deciding on the Cube. Consolidating our four
current Midlands buildings and all our Midlands-based staff
together in one building will reduce our costs, make us more
effective and more efficient and support the provision of high
quality services for our members. The Cube offers us a better,
greener and more centrally located working environment for our
staff, topped with first-class transport links."
Antony Townsend, Chief Executive of the SRA, said:
The Cube offers us excellent facilities in the heart of the City
to consolidate our position as the principal regulator of legal
services, and to attract high-quality staff from a diverse
population.
Ian Hodgson of Knight Frank, who acted on behalf of the Law
Society, said:
"The Cube is an inspirational mixed scheme which has heralded a
new dimension in commercial and residential design and reinforces
Birmingham's compelling offer. The Law Society and SRA's
consolidation here reinforces the city's leading position in legal
and professional services and further strengthens the regional
economy."
