Birmingham based Mechatronic Solutions, one of the UK's leading
providers of innovative automation solutions and systems
integration services, is celebrating after moving into purpose
built premises.
The move to unit 57, Melchett Road in Kings Norton Business
Centre follows a stream of large contract wins for integration
projects into the medical, automotive and industrial sectors, with
this large influx of work Mechatronic were bursting at the seams in
these three separate work areas.
In order to accommodate their expanding work load the move to
transfer all of the operations from their Sheldon home of 23 years
was essential.
Mechatronics Managing Director, Richard Evans said "This move
came at a perfect time for the business, as we move forward we need
more space for bigger projects and this layout will give us a more
efficient way of working. Our clients are pleased too, as our new
facilities will make the builds even easier and quicker, this is a
well deserved move".
With careful planning Mechatronic were able to make the move
with no disruption to their work in progress and current contracts,
whilst even adding better facilities such as a Concept Kaizen area
to serve it's growing customer base.
The Kaizen workshop is unique to Mechatronic where prototypes
can be developed and machines modelled in soft materials to
identify critical areas and provide an early day realisation of the
concept design developed by Mechatronic engineers. Kaizen
activities have always been a feature of Mechatronic and the new
building will allow quicker build and more customer
involvement.
To organise the details of the move Mechatronic enlisted the
help of Project Manager Andrew Thomas, this avoided internal
personnel being distracted from doing what they do best in
designing and manufacturing machines and integrating equipment.
Andrews organisational skills meant that the whole project was
completed on-time and on-budget in just 6 weeks.
This included the complete transformation of a former warehouse
into a bespoke integration centre with design and assembly
facilities. To make it an efficient work place constructional
changes had to be made to the building including access stairs to
the works. A new mezzanine floor to provide a stores area as well
as installation of new windows and doorways to connect the design
office to the build area. In its original use the building had no
services in the workshop so Mechatronic have installed compressed
air, electrical distribution and heating throughout the
building.
The new design office at Mechatronics Kings Norton facility
allows for better communication between the dedicated project
leaders, designers and the development engineers on the shop floor.
With new networking between the 5 CAD stations, the server and
terminals throughout the building all technical and financial
information is readily available on demand.
