A Staffordshire hotel and restaurant is beating the post-Christmas economic blues by offering its customers recession busting special deals.

The Bridgehouse, based at Stonecross, in Penkridge, has seen a fantastic response from customers since the January deals were introduced.

The owners of The Bridgehouse believed there might be a downturn in trade in January so decided to increase its offers and discounts.

Couples can each now enjoy a two course meal and a bottle of red, white or rose wine for just £22.

Customers can also have two meals for £10 and enjoy a three course meal including carvery for just £13.50 on a Sunday lunch time. Offers are also planned for Valentine's Day.

There is also a special children's menu and the food on offer is fresh and home cooked and not defrosted.

Raj Dhanda, who runs The Bridgehouse with his wife Lomi, said: "We are still in a recession so we wanted to lift the post-Christmas blues not just for ourselves but also for our customers. Customers can still come out and enjoy a lovely meal but not pay through the nose for it. Customers don't want cheap but they want value for money and they will certainly get value at The Bridgehouse."

Raj and Lomi took over The Bridgehouse last year and maintained the same staff including manager Irene Rabone who has worked there for the last 11 years.

All the food is freshly prepared with locally sourced produce and the restaurant which can seat up to 80 people is proving to be a winner with customers who want to enjoy a value for money lunch or dinner.

Raj added: "I think we are responding well to the recession because we have a diverse menu and cater for all tastes. We realise times are still tough for people and they have little cash left over after paying the mortgage and other bills. But they still want to go out and every now and then and enjoy an excellent meal with family and friends.

"I think pubs and restaurants are facing the challenge of balancing consumer demand for value with the ever present pressure on overheads.  We want to offer customers excellent home cooked food and give them real value for money at the same time. People don't necessarily want cheap just an experience that makes them feel like they are getting a great deal which they are at The Bridgehouse."

The Bridgehouse  carvery is served all day on a Sunday. The Bridgehouse also hosts a fish and chip supper evening on the last Thursday of every month hosted by popular village cook Paul Planty.

The Bridgehouse also has 10 letting rooms and can cater for parties, birthdays, christenings and weddings.
