Lincolnshire-based online business www.treesandhedging.co.uk has teamed-up with the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to offer schools an exciting way to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee - for "free!"

Directors at Treesandhedging.co.uk are sharing their own passion for getting the younger generation interested in gardening and environmental issues, by offering 2,000 schools the chance to apply for a special pack of five trees to plant in honour of this Royal milestone.

Quick-off-the-mark schools, which are registered with the RHS's Campaign for School Gardening are being encouraged to visit the website for access to their free tree pack or look out for the link in their January Email Newsletter - where they can order their free trees between now (January 10) and February 29.

In order to take advantage of this deal, each school must enter its Campaign Website Username. Schools not yet registered with the Campaign can do so for free, by visiting www.rhs.org.uk/schoolgardening

The RHS Campaign for School Gardening was started in 2007. Since then, more than 14,500 schools and other organisations have got on board.

The Campaign encourages schools to develop gardens which pupils can use as "outdoor classrooms." The RHS believes gardening teaches children more about their world, the source of their food and also vital life skills, such as responsibility and resilience.

RHS Strategic Schools Manager Jacky Chave said: "Gardening in schools is a is a fantastic way of engaging children in learning; not just in science but in every subject, from history to current affairs.

"We wanted to mark the Queen's Jubilee in a way that was fitting and would leave a legacy for all. These 10,000 trees kindly supplied by treesandhedging.co.uk will do just that; providing enjoyment for generations to come, while also supporting local wildlife and eco-systems."

Treesandhedging.co.uk Director Zoe Henderson said: "We are thrilled to have joined forces with the RHS. We share the Society's passion in encouraging today's youngsters to learn more about gardening and there is no better way than to give children the chance to get hands-on experience while they are at school.

"We have been careful to choose a special set of bareroot tree saplings for The RHS Schools Jubilee Promotion Pack of Five Trees. The species include Wild Cherry, Crab Apple, Silver Birch, Hornbeam and Field Maple.

"All are native to the UK and recognised for their attractiveness and heritage. The saplings will measure between 40cm and 60cm and are free to schools which are members of the RHS Campaign for School Gardening on a first-come, first-served basis. All they need to pay is £5.95 in postage and packing."
