Grant Thornton UK has acquired Leicester accountancy business Thomas May & Co. All Thomas May & Co staff join Grant Thornton in its Leicester office, boosting its numbers in the city to more than 100.

Thomas May & Co is a successful business whose many clients will benefit from access to the broader range of services and expertise within Grant Thornton both in its Leicester and national offices, and through the global network of Grant Thornton International member firms.

For Grant Thornton, the deal enhances a market leading position and the addition of a skilled, experienced workforce which will help the Leicester office expand its work advising growing businesses and the people who own and run them.

"Grant Thornton is investing in Leicester and the East Midlands," said Chris Frostwick, a partner at Grant Thornton in Leicester. "It is an ideal way for us to grow significantly and means we stand taller on the regional business landscape. It also speaks volumes about the long-term potential we believe is here for the private sector to thrive and grow."

The Thomas May partners Kaushik Bathia, Brian Carruthers, David Radford, Sarah Major, Paul Hancock and Simon Marshall all join Grant Thornton.

Kaushik Bathia said: "Our principal objective throughout this process has been to ensure that all our clients continue to receive the best possible service well into the future. Joining a firm of the stature of Grant Thornton is an extremely positive step for everybody connected with Thomas May & Co - clients and staff."

The strengths of Thomas May & Co complement those of the Leicester office of Grant Thornton, said Chris Frostwick. "There is a shared set of values and a common culture of commitment to strong relationships with clients and high levels of service."

All Thomas May & Co staff are now located in Grant Thornton's Leicester office on Regent Road.

Legal practices in Leicester advised on the deal. Grant Thornton UK was advised by Gareth John at Gateley LLP and Thomas May & Co was advised by Martin Smith at Spearing Waite LLP.
