When Accrington car enthusiast John Williamson needed a new
windscreen for his rare Ghostbusters 59 Cadillac he knew who to
call - National Mobile Windscreens.
John, aged 30, is in the final stage of restoring the iconic
vehicle which he uses for wedding advertising and corporate
events.
It took him four months to source a replacement from the USA and
called the National Mobile Windscreens branch at Worcester, where
engineer John Timmins and operational support engineer Ian Redshaw
were kitted out and ready for action.
John, who runs Williamson Auto Repairs in Accrington, said:
"This car was virtually a wreck when it was originally imported and
had been 90 per cent restored when I bought it earlier this
year.
"I have been finishing the work but I needed the authentic
replacement windscreen fitted properly to complete the task.
National Mobile Windscreens ordered the replacement and did a great
job," he said.
"This car is an exact replica of Ecto 1 which featured in the
first Ghostbusters film and every detail has to be exact otherwise
it will be spotted by the purists. So it was essential that it
looks right."
The car is becoming a major attraction and turned heads when it
took part in a recent "Knight Rider" event at Castleford in
Yorkshire, with film and TV personality David "The Hoff"
Hasselhoff, along with a number of other cult car classics
including The General Lee recalling the "Dukes of Hazzard" and a
"Back to the Future" DeLorean.
Branch manager Nic Fortey said: "As a company we have a
Specialist Division which supplies replacement glass for classic
vehicles so we are quite used to taking calls from cherished car
owners.
"But this was an exceptional request and our engineers enjoyed a
great experience working on such an iconic car."
