Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham has just become the first
cricket venue in the UK to create an app specifically for Android
platforms following the launch to iPhone users last summer.
Designed and built by Cricket World Media, the app keeps cricket
fans up to date with the latest domestic and international cricket
news from Edgbaston, and is packed with video interviews from
Warwickshire County Cricket Club players past and present,
including current England star Ian Bell. It also provides a mobile
platform to purchase tickets for England's three international
fixtures being staged at Edgbaston over the 2012 summer.
James McLaughlin, Commercial Director at Edgbaston, said: "By
investing in new technology we're enhancing our customer
experience. We've made the ticketing process even easier but also
ensure that fans get the latest Warwickshire and England news
wherever they may be.
"Whilst we have now taken the app onto Android and iPhone, both
versions will receive substantial updates in the coming months and
we will also roll out to Blackberry and Windows Phone platforms to
enable even more mobile users to keep in touch with the latest news
at Edgbaston."
The launch of the app on iPhone came ahead of the third npower
Test Match between England and India last summer. At this fixture
Edgbaston attracted more than 93,000 spectators and showcased its
new £32 million Pavilion Stand to the world.
With the iPhone app and an electronic magazine used as a key
part of the venue's marketing strategy, Edgbaston's Commercial Team
claimed the Best Use of Digital Media and Best Integrated
International Marketing Campaign at the ECB's Business of Cricket
Awards.
James added: "As well as delivering an improved customer
experience, we're constantly looking at new opportunities that
benefit our commercial partners. To date there have been almost
4,000 app downloads, but we expect this to grow substantially when
we role this out to the additional mobile platforms later in the
year."
