Coventry University has invested in a fabulous new city centre
space for the School of Art and Design's Lanchester Gallery.
Making the move from its former site in the Graham Sutherland
building on Gosford Street, the Lanchester Gallery will now be
situated in a purpose-built space on the ground floor of the
recently opened Hub building, the heart of the Coventry University
campus. Doors open for the launch of the new gallery space on
Saturday 14 January from 2pm to 5pm.
The Lanchester Gallery will provide a rich and diverse
programme; engaging with and impacting on students and staff, and
the creative culture locally, nationally and internationally.
The opening exhibition ÉVASION launches the Arts Council
England supported Lanchester Gallery Projects (LGP). LGP is an
international programme of exhibitions, publications,
collaborations and education which promotes the development of
research in contemporary arts practice.
ÉVASION presents the work of Alison Jones, Josephine
Meckseper, Martha Rosler, Milly Thompson and Nicole Wermers. The
exhibition is supported by the publication VUOTO, which includes
newly commissioned work from the exhibiting artists and an
editorial by Nina Power.
LGP curator Sadie Kerr said:
"The new gallery space is magnificent and its central location
matches the ambition we have for the impact of our future
programme. Generously supported by Arts Council England and
Coventry School of Art and Design, the programme responds to the
idiosyncrasies of Coventry and looks to engage and incite the
citizen of Coventry. With this new space, LGP can contribute to a
sustainable infrastructure for contemporary art and culture in the
city."
ÉVASION runs from Saturday 14 January to Sunday 19
February 2012 - Tuesday to Saturday 10am-6pm, Sundays 10am-4pm.
